JAKARTA Meta introduced a new initiative to crack down on spam content on Facebook. This initiative was launched to address accounts that do various ways to play with algorithms.
The act of modifying algorithms is usually done to increase the number of views, achieve more followers, to gain an unfair monetization advantage. Accounts like these are considered detrimental to other content creators.
According to Meta, the content that appears in the feed due to attempts to play the algorithm is a spam action. The reason is, this effort will get rid of authentic content from other creators. To protect disadvantaged creators, Meta will take a number of action.
First, Meta will take firm action if it finds hundreds of accounts with the same content. If there is a Facebook account playing the algorithm this way, these accounts won't qualify for monetization.
Furthermore, Meta will monitor content with fake interactions. The higher the level of interaction in a content, the greater the monetization. However, false comments made intentionally will not increase monetization results.
"To the same extent as this effort, we are also exploring ways to improve more meaningful and interesting discussions. For example, we are testing the comments feature so that people can provide comments that are irrelevant or not in line with the spirit of conversation," Meta explained, quoted from its official website on Friday, April 25.

Meta is also aware that some accounts often pretend to be big creators to earn money. This action has been overcome since last year and Meta managed to remove more than 23 million fake Facebook fin profiles used to emulate big creators.
To maximize the search for spam accounts on Facebook, Meta continues to improve its detection tool, adding features to Facebook's Moderation Assist and comment management tools. That way, accounts that harm creators can be quickly patented.
"Contents shared by creators are an expression of themselves. If other accounts reuse their content without permission, it will harm their hard work," Meta said. "Creator can report imitators in the comments."
