JAKARTA Not long ago, reports emerged that Apple would be fined by the European Union for violating its regulations. However, the latest report states that the penalty will be temporarily postponed.

This is because Donald Trump's tariff policy has shocked the world in recent weeks. According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Europe is in discussions with the US to reach a lucrative trade agreement.

Therefore, the European Commission has not only postponed the imposition of sanctions on Apple, but also on Meta. It is not explained how long this sanction will be postponed.

Most likely, the European Commission will only dare to act after completing the trade agreement.

One of the sources familiar with the matter said that the European Commission should have stopped Apple's actions on April 15, 2025.

However, before the European Union's Trade Commissioner, Maros Sefcovic met US officials in Washington on April 14, 2025, the European Commission immediately postponed its plans.

Despite being postponed for a while, the European Commission will continue to implement its decision, namely to impose fines in accordance with violations committed by Apple and Meta. However, the fines imposed will not be as strict as before.

The European Commission is believed to impose the lightest, even lighter sentence than the law regulates. It also deals with Trump's threats in recent months.

The US leader suspected that Europe was deliberately extorting technology companies from its country. The reason is, the European Commission always provides a detrimental fine. If this continues, Trump had threatened Europe with a very high tariff determination.
