JAKARTA – The head of the social media company Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, was reportedly involved in a scandal that occurred within the company's internal scope. The news was conveyed by a former Facebook employee, Frances Haugen.

Haugen leaked several internal studies that show that Facebook is deliberately allowing hate speech to occur on its platform. He also mentioned that the company's top brass was aware of the potential harm from uncontrolled accounts and they chose to ignore it.

In addition, Haugen also mentioned one example that occurred in Vietnam, where Facebook allowed hate speech to grow rapidly even to the international realm. Regarding this omission, the company argued that they were “linguistically deficient”.

Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg is rumored to have been aware of this problem, but Facebook let it be so that it could trigger a massive polarization on the social media platform.

"Facebook does not want to accept even a small profit sacrificed for safety, and that is unacceptable", Haugen told the British parliament on Monday, October 25, 2021.

This information has drawn criticism from various circles, including US Senator Richard Blumenthal, who is also known as a critic of technology giants. Blumenthal said that Facebook is currently experiencing a moral crisis.

"These damning documents underscore that Facebook's leadership is chronically ignoring serious internal alarms, choosing to put profit above people," he said.

Alluding to this problem, Facebook denied the allegations. Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg argued the report was misguided and could lead public opinion into misperceptions.

"Good faith criticism helps us get better, but my view is that what we're seeing is a coordinated effort to selectively use leaked documents to paint a false picture of our company", said Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
