YOGYAKARTA - Telegram's instant messaging application has recently become popular with the public. When WhatsApp went down some time ago, Telegram reportedly got more than 70 million new users.

Like WhatsApp, Telegram also has a feature that allows users to connect with their closest people or acquaintances through the telephone number registered on Telegram.

Not only that, but Telegram also has a Find People by Location feature that allows you to connect with people around your location. Users also don't need to know the phone numbers of people around them to be able to connect on Telegram.

How to use the Find People by Location feature on Telegram

To connect with people who live around you, users can open the Telegram application and select the three-line icon in the upper right corner of the Telegram main page.

Then, select the "Account Settings" menu and click "Contacts". To search for other Telegram accounts in your nearby location, click Add People Nearby.

Telegram will display other Telegram accounts that are located in your vicinity. Scroll down, to see people who have Telegram, and look for users you know.

Apart from personal contacts, you can also view Telegram Groups around you. Each contact or group will be sorted by the distance of the closest location to your position.

If you have found the people or groups that you connected to your Telegram, click "Make Myself Visible" to be able to display your account in the Add People Nearby feature.

Later your account will be visible to other Telegram users when they search for Telegram accounts in their vicinity (other Telegram users). You can also create a local group by selecting the "Create a Local Group" menu.

Meanwhile, if you don't want your account to appear again on the Telegram account of people around you, you can disable the Find People by Location feature by clicking "Stop Showing Me", so that your account will no longer appear in the Telegram application of people around you.
