JAKARTA - In the midst of this rapid technological development, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) appealed to the public to improve technology-based skills. The reason is, if you do not have the ability in the field of technology, several jobs have the potential to be lost in the future because they are replaced by the role of robots.

This statement was made by Jokowi when briefing the participants of the XXIII Short Education Program (PPSA) and the 2021 LXII Regular Education Program (PPRA) of the National Defense Institute of the Republic of Indonesia on Wednesday, October 13, 2021.

The number 1 person in Indonesia explained the Industrial Revolution 4.0, technological disruption, and the Covid-19 pandemic which played an important role in accelerating world change that led to the application of technology in various fields in the midst of world uncertainty.

“Once again, the uncertainty in the world is very high. Therefore, we really need science and technology and we must be wiser in acquiring new technologies, especially digital technology", said Jokowi.

The President of the Republic of Indonesia also stated that many jobs will be lost in the future. At the same time, there will also be new jobs, as has been the case lately.

Jokowi gave an example that currently, mall owners can manage their own money with e-payments, there are many credit assessors and there will be more in the future and turn into fintech. Among various jobs, Jokowi said that translators would disappear and be replaced by translation applications.

"There are so many translators, in the future, they will disappear because of the translation application. Careful engineers can be replaced by advanced robotics", said Jokowi.

Therefore, Jokowi hopes that the next generation of the nation can be prepared to face the waves of change in the future. If the next generation is not ready for these changes, robots will likely dominate the work that was previously done by humans.
