JAKARTA - After 10 years and stopped showing YouTube Rewind last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, now YouTube has confirmed that they will not be making Rewind again forever.

Rewind is meant to summarize all of the year's most influential trends, most active creators, memes, most popular videos on the Google-owned platform, and go live each year.

"Thanks to all the creators involved in Rewind, we will support your Rewind as we refocus our energies on celebrating you and the trends that are making YouTube a different and updated type of experience. Stay tuned," tweeted @YouTubeCreators as quoted from The Verge, Friday, October 8th.

Last year, YouTube did not produce Rewind videos, the company said they were inappropriate given the chaos of 2020, “But 2020 is different. It just doesn't feel right to continue as if it doesn't exist. So, we took a break from Rewind this year," said YouTube a few years ago.

YouTube has struggled to find the right moment to present Rewind in recent years. In 2018, YouTube Rewind set a record for the most disliked video on the platform, for not featuring influential creator content and viral moments. To this day, the video remains the most disliked video ever posted to the platform.

Some content creators argue that companies choose to feature controversial creators like Logan Paul and PewDiePie, in favor of more advertiser-friendly content. Meanwhile in Rewind 2019, YouTube is trying to avoid controversy by changing its format from a pool of big-budget YouTubers from previous years to a more mundane list of clips from the most-watched creators, videos, and trends.
