Exactly October 4th, Android 12 Will Be Officially Launched

JAKARTA - The stable Android 12 launch schedule for Google Pixel series phones has finally been revealed. Google will reportedly release an update to its operating system on October 4.

It wasn't long ago that Google released the last beta version of Android 12 last week. Now XDA Developers is sharing an internal Google document detailing the Android 12 source code to be published next month on the Google Android Open Source Project (AOSP). Coincides with the release schedule of the stable Android 12 update for the Google Pixel series.

The launch plan was revealed from Google's internal documents regarding software update permissions for Android 10, Android 11, and Android 12 in the future. This document also includes a sign of Google's approval to any OEM or smartphone vendor prior to rolling out software updates for their products.

The permit is obtained after the OEM is declared to have passed the compatibility test for Google Mobile Service (GMS) services. So users of OnePlus, Xiaomi and OPPO phones must be patient first.

XDA notes that AOSP releases typically coincide with the day Google begins public releases for new Android versions.

"The Android 12 stable update could be released on October 4, because that's when Google plans to release to AOSP. This tentative release date was also mentioned by 3PL," said XDA Developers journalist Mishaal Rahman.

If the dates match, it might corroborate previous hints for the Google Pixel 6 debut. Last week, Google uploaded some teaser images of its upcoming flagship series on Instagram.

A closer look at the clock widget on the phone's image seems to hint at October 19th, so it's possible the Pixel 6 device will launch two weeks after Android 12 becomes publicly available.

The document also states that Android 12 is taking longer than its predecessor to launch. For example, Android 10 was released to the public on September 3, 2019 while Android 11 was officially launched on September 8, 2020.
