JAKARTA – Twitter Inc launched a new feature called "super follows" on its social media platform on Wednesday, September 1. This new feature allows content creators to generate monthly revenue by sharing custom content with subscribers with their followers.

Super Follows is not enabled for everyone. For now, the process remains through the app only, with a waiting list. This option is in the Monetization options in the sidebar of the app, although users must be based in the US with 10.000 followers and at least 25 tweets in the past month to be eligible.

US and Canada-based Twitter iOS users will be able to Super Follow multiple accounts starting today, with more users globally seeing the launch in the coming weeks. On the creator's side, Super Follows is only enabled on iOS for now, though support for Android and desktop will be "coming soon".

In February, Twitter outlined plans, including tipping and paid subscriptions for multiple  "super followers" accounts, to reach at least USD 7.5 billion in annual revenue and 315 million monetizable daily active users (mDAU) by the end of the year 2023.

Creators can set a monthly subscription for USD 2.99, USD 4.99 or USD 9.99 per month to monetize bonuses, behind-the-scenes content for their most engaged followers through the feature, Twitter said.

Earlier in the day, Twitter said it would roll out a security feature that would allow users to temporarily block accounts for seven days for using malicious language or sending uninvited replies.
