JAKARTA - The Ministry of Home Affairs reminded regional heads not to make crime eradication policies that open the space for self-judging. Every step must remain within the legal corridor and be carried out together with law enforcement officers.

Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Bima Arya said that the creativity of regional heads should not replace the existing law enforcement system.

"Regional heads must ensure that everything runs within the legal corridor, ensure that the system works, and coordinate between the regional government and the apparatus," said Bima at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Tuesday, July 28.

The statement was made in response to the call for the arrest of the robbers, which was previously made by West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi.

According to Bima, innovation is still possible. However, the policy must not reduce the role of law enforcement officers or weaken coordination in the region.

He said the local government needed to involve the police, the Satuan Polisi Pamong Praja, the United Nations and Political Agency, as well as related ranks.

"Even if there are other innovations, it does not mean weakening law enforcement," he said.

Bima assessed that patrols must be the main step in preventing street crimes. The presence of officers in the field is considered more important than directly making new policies.

"Patrol is the key. Patrol gives the impression that the government and the police are present in the field. So don't jump straight into other innovations," he said.
