Indiskop Can Collaborate With Schools To Strengthen Network

JAKARTA - Indiskop or known as "people's cinema" can be involved or cooperated with schools equipped with cultural arts laboratories to strengthen the network.

This discourse emerged from the Director General of Culture of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) Hilmar Farid.

Kemendikbudristek currently has a network of schools equipped with art and culture laboratories that have a viewing area similar to a cinema with a capacity of 80-100 people, although the quality is not as high as the standard of commercial cinemas.

"If you are involved in the Indiskop network, it can form a bigger force, not to mention including universities that have quite a lot of similar facilities," Hilmar said in his remarks at the 2021 Indiskop Festival online press conference, Saturday.

He hopes that with this strategy the Indiskop network can be expanded and strengthened so that in the coming year, not only the quantity of films will increase, but also the network of festival venues.

Indiskop was established in 2019 in Teluk Gong, North Jakarta and screens Indonesian films at affordable prices so that various levels of society can enjoy quality films.

"Indiskop as a project that I have participated in since the beginning, is the right step to overcome the many blank spots in our country, the number of cinemas is very disproportionate to the population and the distribution is also very limited, still in big cities," he said.

Last year, the pandemic forced the independent cinema to hold its first online film festival filled with short film competitions to film classes with famous filmmakers.

This year, Indiskop again holds a festival that presents short film competitions to a series of online film classes with practitioners from within and outside the country.

Hilmar commends the filmmakers and film workers who continue to create extraordinary works despite the limitations. He said that this online festival is a tangible manifestation of the ability of filmmakers to adapt in the midst of difficult conditions that have entered their second year.
