Ahead Of Flying Into Space, Bezos And Musk's Meme War Appears

JAKARTA - The rivalry between Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos and the desire of two billionaires to reach outer space has now reached the stage of feuding through memes.

On Saturday, July 18, SpaceX CEO Musk apparently spent most of his time responding to memes that had been sent to him on Twitter.

After responding to a question about the new Tesla FSD Beta, the South African entrepreneur was sent a meme using the “Padme” and “anakin” format that the legendary characters from the Star Wars films, except for, featured him and Bezos in.

The meme pokes fun at the fact that Jeff Bezos' upcoming Blue Origin flight will, in fact, be just a sub-orbital flight. This means it will only touch the edge of space, rather than going into a full orbit around Earth.

Blue Origin will fly just above what experts call the Karman line, an imaginary line in space that is 62 miles above sea level. This is what some define as the boundary between Earth's atmosphere and space. Musk clearly had the backing of this post and responded with a "haha".

Musk also responded to a lengthy Twitter thread about his history with Bezos, joking that Amazon's CEO "could suppress the rhinos" a reference to Bezos' physical transformation in recent years.

This continues the bickering and friendship that has developed between Musk and Bezos and more recently, and Richard Branson who also traveled to the edge of space last, on the maiden voyage of his Virgin Galactic spacecraft.

Before the flight, which took place last Sunday, Blue Origin mocked Branson for only having "airplane-sized windows" whereas their New Shepard rocket would have "the largest window in space".

Blue Origin will fly on July 20 with Bezos himself traveling with his brother Mark, 18-year-old physics student Oliver Daeman and 82-year-old aviator Wally Funk.
