BRIN Emphasizes Indonesia's Commitment to Strengthening the Southeast Asian Aerospace Ecosystem

JAKARTA - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) has expressed its readiness to encourage the aerospace industry in Southeast Asia. This commitment was conveyed at the 2026 Space Summit.

To carry out its commitment, BRIN is determined to strengthen the national space ecosystem by developing technology to prepare human resources. This strategy is carried out so that Indonesia can participate in the space industry.

"These efforts are part of Indonesia's long-term strategy to become a player in the global industrial chain," said Head of the Research Organization for Aeronautics and Space BRIN, Robertus Heru Triharjanto, quoted on Tuesday, March 10.

The next step that BRIN will take is to facilitate the formation of various professional organizations such as the Indonesian Space Association for the purpose of research collaboration. In addition, BRIN will work together in developing satellites with the private sector.

At the global level, BRIN's ground station facilities have been used to support the tracking of Indian space satellites or ISRO. BRIN is also actively promoting Indonesia's equator region as a strategic location in the development of the world spaceport.

The Executive Director of INASA BRIN, Erna Sri Adiningsih, assessed that private sector involvement in the national space sector has increased in the last five years. Therefore, Erna believes that investment in space technology can strengthen the digital economy and public services.

"Therefore, investment in space technology is not only related to science, but also a strategic investment for economic development and public services," said Erna.

Currently, BRIN will focus on mastering remote sensing satellite technology to mitigate disasters and national security. The roadmap for the space economy is also being prepared in conjunction with Bappenas to ensure the sustainability of the space sector in the future.
