JAKARTA - Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is reportedly undergoing elective laparoscopic surgery to treat a hernia (para-umbilical hernia) that has afflicted him.

The Head of the Prime Minister's Medical Team, Dr. Asri Ranga Bin Abdullah, in a statement delivered by the Malaysian Prime Minister's office, said that the surgical procedure went smoothly under the care of a team of specialist doctors.

"He is currently undergoing physiotherapy and is under the supervision of a team of specialist doctors to ensure the recovery process goes well," said Asri Ranga as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, August 10.
