"Ketok Mejik" film tells the story of the struggle for life with fresh humor

JAKARTA - Indonesian film enthusiasts are sure to receive the latest comedy drama, the film Ketok Mejik, directed by Yogi S. Calam, which will be shown simultaneously in cinemas on August 13.

This film, which is the result of collaboration between HAHA Production, AZ Films, and Kita Films, raises the reality of everyday people's lives packaged with fresh humor. The main narrative focuses on the dynamics of friendship and the struggle to maintain a source of livelihood in the midst of economic adversity.

The story of Ketok Mejik highlights the figure of Ben, played by Ananta Rispo, a simple workshop owner who is threatened with bankruptcy due to debt. The situation is even more strange when he has to deal with the pressure of greedy businessmen who try to control his business.

In a desperate situation, Ben is helped by his employees who have unique backgrounds and personalities. They are Made (Tarra Budiman) who is ambitious, Saged (Dodit Mulyanto) who is clumsy, and Unung (Arief Didu) who is innocent. Uniquely, the way out that they rely on to save the fate of the workshop is based on a magic hammer left by the ancestors.

Director Yogi S. Calam explained that the main strength of this cinema lies in the strengthening of characters and the dynamics of relationships between characters that are formed as naturally as possible. The humor presented is not just relying on verbal jokes, but also born from absurd situations that are relevant to the problems of modern society.

"We want the audience to get to know Ben, Made, and Saged as three friends who feel close to everyday life. The most important thing is not just what they face, but how they go through it together. That's the experience we want to share through this film," said Yogi at a press conference at Epicentrum, South Jakarta, Sunday, August 9.

In line with the director, Handoko as the producer revealed that the basic idea of making Ketok Mejik started from a common phenomenon regarding someone's desire to change their life for the better.

"Everyone must have been at the point of wanting to change their lives for the better. That feeling is the starting point for this film. We hope that the audience can laugh with them, while also feeling every step of the journey they go through," said Handoko.

Meanwhile, producer Derie Agung Syaputra or commonly known as Bangder added, every choice in the storyline will bring the characters on an unexpected adventure.

"We want Ketok Mejik to be not only a story about the desire to change life, but also about how every choice and process we go through leads us to an unexpected journey," said Bangder.

In addition to Ananta Rispo, Tarra Budiman, Dodit Mulyanto, Arief Didu, this film is also strengthened by a row of well-known actors and comedians such as Ersya Aurelia, Jarwo Kwat, Agus Kuncoro, Arafah Rianti, Sadana Agung, Erick Astrada, Lolox, to Furry Setya.

The merger of drama and comedy actors is projected to be able to present a solid comedy rhythm as well as touching for national film enthusiasts.
