JAKARTA - Commemorating National Teacher's Day, Google Indonesia together with the Balikpapan Education and Culture Office (Disdikbud) and the Balikpapan City Government held the Gemini Academy.
Followed by more than 2,000 teachers in Balikpapan, this program is designed to provide teachers and teachers with artificial intelligence skills (AI) safely, ethically, and relevant to today's learning needs.
"The Gemini Academy is here to help teachers understand how AI can become a safe, intuitive tool and help them teach more effectively," said Kresnadi, Government Affairs Manager of Google Indonesia, Isya Hanum in a statement received Wednesday, November 26.
This initiative is part of Google's ongoing support for the government's efforts to improve the quality of education and strengthen the competence of Indonesian human resources.
Since it was first introduced in 2024, Gemini Academy has reached more than 286,000 teachers in 38 provinces in Indonesia. The implementation of the Gemini Academy in Balikpapan is one of the important pillars of local strategies to accelerate AI literacy in the education sector.

The program introduces AI foundations, AI utilization responsibly, good practices in Gemini use, as well as practical ways of transforming the teaching and learning process through technology.
This training also helps teachers integrate coding-based learning and take advantage of AI features in classrooms to save material preparation time, increase creativity, and provide a more personal learning experience for each student.
"We believe that meaningful education occurs when teachers are empowered, students are actively involved, and the technology used can be relied on and designed to improve the quality of learning," concluded Isya.
