Meta Lets 'Human Trade For Sex' Accounts Make Violations Up To 16 Times

JAKARTA Meta is suspected of giving great tolerance to malicious accounts, such as accounts involved in 'human trafficking for sex'. These accounts are not immediately suspended.

Vaishnavi Jayakumar, Mantan Kepala Keselamatan dan Kesesejahtan Meta, menyatakan bahwa perusahaan memberikan kesempatan kepada akun-akon yang terlibat dalam hal berbahaya hingga 16 kali. Akun tersebut akan ditunda jika menerima pelanggaran ke-17.

This testimony is recorded in court documents that are not edited for child safety cases on social media. The lawsuit was filed some time ago by the school district, attorney general, and parents in a number of countries.

"This means that you can be subject to 16 violations of prostitution and sexual invitations, and after the 17th violation, your account will be suspended," Jayakumar said, launching from The Verge on Tuesday, November 25.

This 16-time tolerance show that Meta applies a 'very high threshold' to breaches on its platform, although its offenses are classified as dangerous. This is the industry's highest threshold, according to the lawsuit.

This undistedged document also reveals allegations that Instagram 'does not have a specific way' for users to report child sexual abuse (CSAM) material. Despite reports, Meta did not address this issue.

One of the reports came from Jayakumar. The former Meta employee admitted that he had raised the issue several times, but Meta ignored him on the grounds of 'too much work' to review the report.

Responding to this statement, Meta Spokesman Andy Stone objected. Stone rejected all allegations made in the document, including Jayakumar's statement regarding the limit of account violations up to 16 times.

"We strongly disagree with these allegations, which rely on carefully selected quotes and misinformational opinions in an attempt to present a deliberately misleading picture," Stone told The Verge.

Stone stressed that Meta always listens to parental complaints and makes changes to protect teens for more than a decade. These changes include introducing Youth Accounts with built-in protection and giving control to parents.
