Eid Al-Fitr Holiday, Telkomsel Increases Internet Capacity To 8.07 Tbps

JAKARTA - Telkomsel has prepared a surge in internet usage during the Eid al-Fitr holiday this year. It is estimated that data service traffic will increase by 50.12 percent compared to eid al-Fitr last year.

To deal with this surge, Telkomsel is focusing on strengthening the network at 554 points throughout Indonesia. Consists of 255 residential areas, 21 COVID-19 referral hospitals, 196 public service points, and shopping centers, 43 major transportation transit points, seven houses of worship, and 32 areas of transportation and logistics lines.

"We also increased the internet capacity to 8.07 Tbps and an additional 63 units of compact mobile BTS", Telkomsel wrote in its official statement.

Until last month, PT Telkom Indonesia has added 263 units of 4G LTE BTS. This means that Telkomsel has operated more than 236,000 units of 3G and 4G/LTE BTS throughout Indonesia.

In addition to building infrastructure, Telkomsel has also tested a network of 15,135 kilometers, covering 57 toll roads throughout Indonesia.

Based on the test results of the network, Telkomsel's mobile data access speed is 11.44Mbps, while the power of the radiating power and the receiving power of the device or coverage is 96.77 percent.

Telkomsel's projection of the surge in data usage is based on people's behavior in utilizing digital technology for daily activities during the coronavirus pandemic.

In addition to the internet, Telkomsel predicts voice call traffic to grow 3.14 percent during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, compared to the usual day of the year. Although it also increased compared to a normal day, voice call traffic decreased 15.86 percent down compared to Eid al-Fitr last year.

While SMS usage tends to increase, which is 2.95 percent compared to weekdays and 5.63 percent compared to Eid al-Fitr 2020.
