JAKARTA - Apple Intelligence will get a big improvement with the integration of the GPT-5 model from OpenAI when iOS 26 is released next month. This update will bring more advanced reasoning and programming capabilities, making Siri and other features much smarter.

Apple will also introduce a new feature called Live Translation and maintain a strong commitment to user privacy.

GPT-5 Present On IPhone Via Apple Intelligence

Apple Intelligence, which has become part of Apple's device ecosystem, initially used OpenAI's GPT-4o model. However, with iOS 26, Apple will integrate the latest and most powerful GPT-5 model from OpenAI.

The GPT-5 is known as a frontier model' that offers improvements in reasoning, coding capabilities, as well as better understanding of sound and video.

This means that when Siri needs help from ChatGPT to complete complex tasks, the answers given will be more accurate, comprehensive, and useful than before.

New GPT-5 Feature: Live Translation

In addition to the GPT-5 upgrade, iOS 26 will also bring the Live Translation feature. This feature allows users to translate conversations in real-time in applications such as FaceTime and Messages. This will greatly facilitate cross-language communication without a hitch.

Apple insists that ChatGPT integration is optional. If users choose to activate it, they can use it for various tasks such as web searches, document analysis, and Google Lens'-like Visual Intelligence features are available on the iPhone 15 Pro and the latest models.

To maintain privacy, Apple hides the user's IP address and prevents OpenAI from saving the sent request. Users can also connect their own OpenAI account to get subscription benefits, but in this case OpenAI's privacy policy will apply.

GPT-5: Unmitigated Start

Although the GPT-5 brings many improvements, its launch did not go smoothly. Many users have complained that this model feels more 'robotic' and loses the personality of the previous version. Although the GPT-5 excels in various tasks, there are also reports of erroneous and unreasonable answers.

The problem got even worse when OpenAI removed other model options and made GPT-5 a default model. However, after receiving criticism, OpenAI returned the GPT-5 option to its Plus customers. Hopefully improvements will be made soon so that the GPT-5 can meet expectations from the start of its launch.
