JAKARTA The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) introduced an application to simulate a tsunami. This application is exhibited at the 2025 Indonesian Science, Technology and Industry Convention (KSTI).

Named the Virtual Reality Application for Tsunami Simulation (AViRSiNami), the application was developed by the Data and Information Science Research Center (PRSDI) team at BRIN. This technology is not just an ordinary application because it uses Virtual Reality (VR).

With this technology, BRIN can simulate tsunami events with more realistic visualization. Esa Prakasa, Head of the BRIN Data and Information Science Research Center (PRSDI), explained that the application was based on a tsunami that occurred in Cilacap in 2006.

"Through this application, we hope to provide educational solutions based on high technology to increase public preparedness for the tsunami disaster," Esa said in an interview, quoted via the BRIN website on Saturday, August 9.

AVRSiNami was developed not only to show what happened during the tsunami, but also how to avoid it. PRSDI Associate Expert researcher BRIN M. Yudhi Rezaldi said that this application can also direct users to find the nearest protection location.

This application is equipped with a realistic visualization of the virtual environment. This visualization is made based on the image of the drone and 3D orthhomosenic techniques so that the Cilacap City display can look more detailed and fit the actual situation.

"Detail Cilacap City is realistically modeled using 3D modeling software," Yudhi explained. "With this innovative approach, AVRSiNami is not only an educational tool, but also an adaptive emergency response training facility," he said.
