Big Open-Source Model From OpenAI Postponed, Here's Why

JAKARTA - OpenAI announced the delay in launching its newest open-source AI model, citing the need for additional security testing and further risk review. Unfortunately, there is no definite schedule for when the model will be available.

This decision is a blow to developers waiting for the model to build and customize their AI tools locally, without depending on OpenAI's API.

Building an AI model from scratch is not only time consuming but also very expensive, and not all companies have the technical ability to do it. That's why many companies choose to use API services from large providers like OpenAI.

It is not yet clear whether the delay in this open-source model will have an impact on the GPT-5 schedule, but everything is still to be awaited.

Unlike GPT models that are only available through paid APIs, open-source models will be able to be downloaded and run directly on developer devices.
