JAKARTA In line with changes to the content moderation system on Meta, Instagram Head Adam Mosseri said that political content would be recommended again on Instagram and Threads.

This is good news, for some users, because Meta has blocked recommendations for political content on both platforms. Instagram users and Threads will not see recommendations for political content from unfollowed accounts.

However, Meta has decided to overhaul its content management system by switching to the Community Records feature. Through this change, Meta wants to make its entire platform a social media that supports free speech.

That way, Instagram users and Threads will again see political content in their account. This change has begun to be implemented in the US and will be implemented around the world in the near future.

"We will add political content to recommendations in Threads and adjust political content controls to three options: fewer, standard, default, and more," Mosseri said via his Threads account on Thursday, January 9.

Mosseri explained that the restrictions on political content were considered impractical so Meta decided to change it. In addition, many Instagram users and Threads say they want to get political content.

With this change made, Meta is committed to supporting freedom of speech, especially in the political field. In the future, Meta will continue to listen to input and study its political recommendation system repeatedly.

"Our goal is to introduce political recommendations in a responsible and personal way, which means more for people who want this content and less for those who don't want it," Mosseri explained.
