JAKARTA Anthropic, an Artificial Intelligence (AI) company, has struck a deal with those who sued him on copyright infringement charges. This deal has been approved by judges from US districts.
In October 2023 a number of music publishers filed copyright infringement lawsuits against Anthropic. The lawsuit was made by Universal Music Group, ABKCO, Concord Music Group, Greg Nelson Music, and many more.
Anthropic is suspected of training his AI model, Claude, with more than 500 lyrics of legally protected songs. This allegation was proven after Claude was asked to give lyrics to the song Halo from Beyond, Uptown Funk from Mark Ronson, to Moves like Jagger from Maroon 5.
Claude displays the entire or most of the song lyrics so that this AI model is believed to study hundreds of copyrighted song lyrics. Although the lyrics of this song can be found easily on platforms like Genius, in fact, the platform pays license fees.
That way, music publishers know that the lyrics of the songs under their auspices are indeed used by Genius. However, unlike Anthropic, music publishers believe that the company has changed copyright management information.

Our decision to approve this provision is consistent with those priorities. We continue to hope to show that it is consistent with the applicable copyright law," Anthropic told the Hollywood Reporter some time ago.
Anthropic also explained that Claude was not designed to study copyrighted content, even Claude is claimed to have a number of processes that can prevent such violations. Therefore, Anthropic is committed to paying more attention to his AI model.
This good faith was welcomed by the music publishers. According to the agreement signed by the US District Court Judge Eumi Lee, music publishers can interfere in the future if the alleged copyright infringement occurs again.
