Samsung Prepares Tri-Fold Folding Phones, Ready To Compete In Folding Device Market

JAKARTA - Samsung has again shown its seriousness in the folding device market with the approval of the latest patents for tri-fold foldable phones. This patent filed at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) provides an early picture of Samsung's plans to bring new innovations in the tech industry. Although there is no certainty whether this product will be released soon, the patent hints at the future development direction of Samsung devices.

Tri-Fold Samsung Challenges

The Huawei Mate XT is a real example of a foldable device with a trifold mechanism that has succeeded in creating a tablet-like experience thanks to a foldable 10.2-inch 3K screen. The XT Mate offers high flexibility, where users can turn it into a tablet complete with an optional keyboard accessory.

Samsung, known as a pioneer in the foldable device industry, will strive to provide a similar experience but with a better solution to overcome challenges, such as folding seen on screens.

According to the patent, Samsung appears to be adopting a unique fold mechanism approach to ensure a smoother user experience and better durability. The design of the Huawei Mate XT, which combines one side of the folds inside and the other side outward, creates a 12.8mm ramp profile when folded, but creates an increasingly visible folding risk over time. Samsung has a great chance of introducing new innovations to address this issue and improve device roughness.

In line with previous foldable devices, Samsung is expected to use the latest Snapdragon flagship chipsets for their tri-folds. This will certainly improve multitasking performance and provide maximum user experience. While still in the early stages of development, Samsung's tri-fold phones are predicted to be a major step that will strengthen their dominance in the foldable device market.
