Amazon Will Close Freevee Platform, Free Television Streaming Service

JAKARTA Amazon will close Freevee, a free television streaming platform backed by advertising, in the near future. Reportedly, this streaming service will be discontinued in the coming weeks.

"To provide customers with an easier viewing experience, we have decided to stop using the Freevee brand," an Amazon spokesperson told Deadline.

All content available on Freevee will be moved to another Amazon streaming platform, namely Prime Video. Users must access this content by paying for premium packages every month, unlike Freevee services.

As a form of relief to affected Freevee users, all episodes that have just been added to the television streaming platform can be accessed by Prime users for free. This content will also not be disrupted by advertising.

"There will be no changes to the content available to Prime members, and a wide free streaming content offering will remain accessible to non-Prime members, including some Originals from Amazon MGM Studios," the spokesperson said.

Freevee was originally launched as IMDb Freedive in 2019, then changed its name within a few months to IMDb TV. Three years later, Amazon changed its platform name again to Freevee.

Amazon started adding Prime Video content to Freevee since last year, but the future of the platform began to be questioned after the company introduced a free version or with an ad on Prime Video. In the end, Amazon also considered Freevee's services useless.
