JAKARTA Not only humans, robots can also make works of art, and even make money from these works. As happened to Ai-Da, a humanoid robot developed byUL Meller.
Ai-Da made the painting of Alan Turing, a mathematician, computer scientist, as well as a British cryptianist. The painting, entitled AI God, was auctioned off in Sotheby's, New York recently and sold for more than a million dollars (Rp. 15 billion).
According to an Art Newspaper report, this artwork was sold after going through 27 offers. Sotheby's auction hall has also confirmed the sale and said that AI God is the first humanoid robot artist-made artwork to auction.
This work is of concern because Ai-Da actually paints on a canvas. This robot is capable of drawing or painting thanks to a camera pairing in its eye, an Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithm, and a robotic arm that can receive orders.
"The Ai-Da depiction of Turing not only respects its legacy, but also explores the broader and transformative impact of technology on human identity, creativity and agency, making his work an important milestone in art and AI," Sotheby's said on its official website.

AI God was created almost a year ago and this work was exhibited as part of a polyptych panel five in the United Nations (UN), precisely at a summit in Geneva. This artwork is called the nickname 'AI for good'.
As a Ai-Da developer, Meller said that he created a humanoid robot that can paint as a form of the latest obsession with technological developments. This robot will be Meller's legacy that continues to grow.
AI God isn't the only artwork Ai-Da does. In line with Meller's statement, Ai-Da may be making artwork again in the future. However, there is no information as to what kind of idea the robot will develop in the future.
