JAKARTA A new document leaked that Google is developing a special Tensor chip for Pixel Watch devices which is expected to be released in the coming years.

To date, Pixel Watch has relied on chipsets from Samsung and Qualcomm, with the latest Pixel Watch 2 and Watch 3 using Snapdragon W5+ which brings a significant increase in battery life over the first-generation Exynos chips.

The move is in line with Google's strategy on their phone line that has used its own homemade Tensor chip. Based on documents from Google's chip division, Android Authority confirmed that Google may be working on a Tensor chipset specifically for Pixel Watch.

The chip, dubbed "NPT", is expected to come in 2026, likely for the Pixel Watch 5, with 1x Arm Cortex-A78 and 2x Arm Cortex-A55 core configurations.

Although these cores are not up to date, they are more sophisticated than Snapdragon W5+ which uses Cortex-A53 on the 4nm node.

Moreover, with Google's plan to use the 3nm process from TSMC on the latest Tensor chip, the Tensor chip for the Pixel Watch is likely to advance more than Qualcomm's current offerings.

Although many questions still surround the development of the Tensor chip for smartwatches, this leak gives an overview of Google's future plans.
