JAKARTA - Universal Music Group (UMG) on Friday, October 25 released a Spanish version of the 1958 hit song Brenda Lee, "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree," by utilizing SoundLabs' AI technology.

This song is titled "Noche Buena y Navidad" in Spanish and is made with Lee's approval under the production of Auero Baqueiro who has won an award in the field of Latin music.

Universal Music states that this song shows how AI can be used with respect to artists and ensures that they give full permission.

The use of ethical AI in the entertainment industry is in the spotlight after several incidents where AI-generated content raises concerns about copyright infringement and artist approval.

The vocals of this song were created using MicDrop from SoundLabs, an AI vocal plug-in that allows users to convert their voices into sounds or other instruments.

The song uses original music and vocals, while Lee's lead vocals are replaced with vocals in the newly translated Spanish language, made using the AI vocals model taken from the voice of the Country Music Hall of Fame member.

"The result is a new version of the classical holiday song that is known and loved, which sounds as if 13-year-old Brenda Lee is in the studio, singing it for the first time," Universal Music said.

UMG signed a deal with SoundLabs in June to create an official high-quality vocal model for artists using their own voice data for training while maintaining control over ownership and granting them full artistic consent.
