JAKARTA - Mercu Buana University (UMB) officially launched the E-Sport Community in a series of MLBB Season 10 Mobile Legends Development League (MDL) events. The event which took place on October 17-20, 2024 at the Mercu Buana University Campus, West Jakarta, was held thanks to the collaboration between UMB and well-known gaming companies, Moonton, and Mineski as event organizers.

Deputy Chancellor for Student Affairs and UMB Cooperation, Dr. Ariani Kusumo Wardhani, in his speech said that the community formation is a form of UMB's commitment to following the development of the digital industry, especially the world of e-sports, which is getting faster.

E-sport is no longer just entertainment, but a promising global industry, where many professionals have achieved great achievements. In Indonesia, e-sports are increasingly recognized and open up opportunities for gamers to express their abilities," said Ariani.

Dr. Ariani, who is familiarly called Ari, also emphasized that the UMB E-Sport Community is not only focused on competition, but also as a forum for developing student skills.

"This community is expected to be a place for UMB students to develop soft skills such as teamwork, effective communication, and strategic thinking skills, which are very important in the world of modern work," he continued. He is also optimistic that this community will make UMB proud in the national to international arena.

Support for Career Facilities and Development

As part of its commitment, UMB will provide full support in the form of facilities and coaching for the development of this community. UMB has long been known as an institution that encourages potential students not only in the academic field, but also in extracurricular activities that prepare them to face future industrial challenges.

The chairman of the UMB E-Sport Community, Muhammad Lutfi, stated that students' interest in e-sports is very high, with more than 300 students joining to date. Lutfi also revealed that this community will hold various internal tournaments to find a team that will represent UMB in a larger e-sport competition.

"We hope that this community can continue to grow, be solid, and bring proud achievements for UMB," said Lutfi.

Collaboration For E-Sport Development

Leonardus, Mineski's Project Manager, added that MDL is a development league that aims to find new talents in the world of Mobile Legends to compete in the Mobile Legends Professional League (MPL).

He stated that Mineski continues to support the development of e-sports among students, including at UMB, as part of their commitment to developing young talents.

The collaboration between UMB, Moonton, and Mineski is proof that Mercu Buana University is not only superior in academics but also responsive to the development of the digital world and technology.
