Be Alert, Recognize These Phishing Email Signs Before Being Cheated

JAKARTA - In the midst of technology that continues to develop, cybercriminals are increasingly good at deceiving their victims, so that many become victims and suffer financial losses.

In Indonesia, cyber crime is still common, ranging from phishing under the guise of promotion from digital payment platforms, phishing by spreading the APK through messenger platforms, and banking phishing which resulted in losses of up to hundreds of millions of rupiah for users.

In 2023, Indonesia recorded 97,465 financial phishing incidents in 2023, placing them in 3rd position in Southeast Asia, with a total of nearly 500,000 phishing incidents.

One of the most commonly used channels is phishing is email. Phishing emails or messages are hoax messages designed to trick recipients into revealing sensitive information by posing as legitimate entities.

To increase the level of public awareness, Kaspersky revealed the most common phishing email scenario found, including:

First, you will find a warning email from a legitimate institution in the inbox. When clicking on the link in the email, you will be taken to a web page that looks like the original web page on the institution's website.

The site designed to steal this information will let you know that there is a problem with an account and then ask you to confirm the username and password.

After entering the credentials, you will be directed to the actual institution's website to enter the information for the second time. From there, you will not realize that your information has been stolen.

In general, the following features are most commonly found in phishing emails and should be a warning sign:

- Attachment or linkage-Speeding Error-Poor grammar- Unprofessional Graphics- Unnecessary Urgency to immediately verify email addresses or other personal information- Common greeting such as "Dear Subscription" instead of your name.
