Block X Function Changes Can Violate Google Play Store And App Store Policies

JAKARTA X, the platform that Elon Musk now owns, is again making controversial changes. The social media, previously called Twitter, will change the function of the block feature in the near future.

Since August last year, Musk revealed that X plans to remove the block feature of the account. This plan has received a lot of criticism, but Musk still wants to change that. According to the billionaire, the function of the block feature is currently useless.

"This blocking list is very disturbing. There is no point in 'blocking' public posts. It's time to get rid of blocking and replace it with a stronger silent feature," Musk wrote via his personal account in March.

After voicing a change in the blocking function for several months, X is finally ready to launch a block feature update. On Thursday, October 17, the official X account stated that blocked users can now still see the user's post blocking it.

"In the near future we will launch a change about how the block feature will work. If your posts are publicly arranged, blocked accounts can still see them, but cannot interact," explained the X account.

This change may not run smoothly because it violates blocking rules from Google and Apple. The Play Store and App Store have strict rules against the app and X should follow the rules applied by the two companies.

On the Google Play Store help page, it is clearly noted that applications with user-made content (UGC) and offer interaction capabilities, "must provide in-app functionality to block users."

Apple guidelines have almost the same rules. The company stated that the UGC app should provide, "the ability to block users who abuse from the service."

The blocking idea that X wants to use is certainly different from Google and Apple standards. Despite opposing Google and Apple's app store rules, these two giant technology companies have yet to provide a response to the changes X wants to implement.
