Huawei Launches NEXT HarmonyOS: New OS Without Android Starting Next Week

JAKARTA Huawei is ready to launch their newest operating system, HarmonyOS NEXT, which will completely replace Android support on its devices. The operating system will begin to be introduced next week, with its debut on the Mate 60, Mate X5, and MatePad Pro devices on October 15, 2024.

Previously, HarmonyOS had become the core of various Huawei devices, although it initially only looked like an Android-based interface. However, with the vision of becoming more independent and free from Android, Huawei continues to develop HarmonyOS until it reaches this latest version.

The NEXT HarmonyOS will be a fully standalone operating system without the support of Android apps, and Huawei has worked hard to ensure that this operating system supports more than 10,000 apps that will meet 99.9% of consumer usage time requirements.

According to a recent report, HarmonyOS already controls 17% of smartphone market share in China in the first quarter of 2024, signaling a major shift from Android operating systems in markets dominated by Android and iOS. Huawei's move to introduce the NEXT HarmonyOS is a significant effort to make their smartphone ecosystem more independent.

Although Mate 60, Mate X5, and MatePad Pro will be the first devices to receive HarmonyOS NEXT, there is no indication whether Huawei's newest triple smartphone, Mate XT, will also get an update to this operating system.

With the launch of HarmonyOS NEXT, Huawei is increasingly demonstrating its commitment to building a more integrated and independent device ecosystem from its Android operating system, while continuing to improve user experience through broad application support.
