IPhone 17 And 'iPhone 17 Air' Rumored To Come With ProMotion 120Hz Screen

JAKARTA - The launch of the iPhone 16 just took place last week, but the latest rumors about the iPhone 17 lineup have started to emerge.

Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultants informed that the standard iPhone 17 and leaner model, referred to as "iPhone 17 Air," will be equipped with ProMotion technology. This technology allows the device screen to have a refresh rate of up to 120Hz for the scrolling experience and smoother video content.

ProMotion also allows the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air screens to lower the refresh rate for more efficient power saving. The iPhone 13 Pro model can lower the refresh rate to 10Hz, while the iPhone 14 Pro to iPhone 16 Pro can reach 1Hz, allowing the always-on display feature to display key screen elements even though the device is locked. However, it is not clear whether the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air will have the ability to lower the refresh rate by 10Hz or 1Hz.

In comparison, the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus still use the screen with a refresh rate of 60Hz.

Ross Young has a good track record of providing screen-related information on Apple products in the future, including being the first source to reveal that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will come with a larger screen, which is 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches, respectively.

Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 17 series in September 2025
