JAKARTA - Google is reportedly testing a new feature in Search that uses a generating AI to present a summary of relevant information on user searches. This feature is similar to AI Overview, which already exists, but with significant differences: there is no clear indication that the content presented is generated by AI.

In the current AI Overview system, the summary that appears in the search results is clearly marked through the Gemini logo and the General AI is experimental. In addition, there is a large button that reads "Show more" which gives users access to see more information generated by AI.

However, in this latest trial, the Gemini logo is missing, and the "Show more" button is replaced with a small link that reads "More." Labels showing that the content is created by AI are also still there, but are hidden behind further interactions, where users should tap the "More" link to view it.

According to a report from Barry Schwartz on platform X (formerly Twitter), this new feature may replace or complement the AI Overview system. However, the biggest difference is that this new feature no longer openly shows that the content comes from AI. Without a striking logo or label, users may not realize that the information they receive is the result of a generating AI process.

Previously, Google had faced criticism regarding the AI Overview feature because it produced inaccurate information several times, which could potentially harm users. Even so, a clear label on AI Overview at least warns users that the information comes from AI, so they can be more careful.

Through this new feature being tested, concerns arise because there are no direct indicators that the information is generated by AI, which can cause confusion and a greater potential hazard if the information presented turns out to be inaccurate.

Google has not released this feature widely and is still in a limited trial phase. However, many hope that this giant technology company will soon be aware of the potential problems posed and revisit the decision. If this feature continues, Google is expected to provide a clearer sign that the content presented is produced by AI, for the sake of transparency and security of users.
