Expert Calls North Korea The Most Countries To Carry Out Cyber Attacks

JAKARTA - Global Security expert Mikko HyppOynen said North Korea is the only country in the world, which has repeatedly carried out cyber attacks to steal money from other governments or even from private companies.

North Korea is also the country most sanctioned in the world. Because according to Mikko, one of the reasons North Korea carried out the attack was to improve its country's budget deficit.

One of the most famous cyber attacks the country has ever carried out is SWIFT. Where this attack targeted several banks, the most famous of which were the National Bank of Bangladesh.

"We've seen it many times. Where North Korean hackers, long before the North Korean government, used international banking networks to try to gain access to foreign funds," Mikko said at the VIDA Executive Summit on Tuesday, September 3.

Furthermore, Mikko also said that hacking groups from North Korea hacked cryptocurrency exchanges several times to steal Bitcoin and Ethereum, as well as other cryptocurrencies.

The reason why they are targeting cryptocurrencies is because according to the security expert no one can impose sanctions on cryptocurrencies, unlike sanctions against theft of dollars or euros in the real world.

"It is impossible to impose sanctions on cryptocurrencies, because cryptocurrencies are currencies based on mathematics, mathematics, and mathematics that don't care about your sanctions," he added.
