Kominfo Calls Online Gambling Bandar Smarter Avoid Blocking Sites

JAKARTA - Director of Information Application Control of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Teguh Arifiyadi, revealed that the latest data on online gambling transactions has reached almost Rp400 trillion, with the number of players increasing sharply to three million people.

This increase occurred because according to Teguh, online gamblers were getting smarter in covering their tracks. Every single site is blocked, a new method appears that the perpetrators use to avoid blocking.

"Not only continuing to update the keywords, they even hacked official sites, such as websites with go.id and ac.id domains," Teguh said in the 9th Merdeka Barat Forum (FMB9) dialogue on Monday, August 19.

Seeing the smarter the bookie's method, Teguh emphasized that he in Kominfo continues to study these modus operandi.

Therefore, Teguh emphasized that education is the main element in efforts to eradicate online gambling. Because, if public literacy is not increased, blocking sites carried out by Kominfo will be in vain.

"For example, it is not uncommon for people who often cannot distinguish between online gambling and online games. Even though the main characteristics of online gambling are the system of deposits and cash outs, both direct and indirect," he explained.

Therefore, efforts to eradicate online gambling require close cooperation between the government, the community, and other digital service providers to provide support from upstream to downstream.
