Prince Harry Urges AI Vigilance At The Beginning Of A Visit To Colombia

ak was wary of artificial intelligence (AI) and talked about divisive social media during a panel discussion in the Colombian capital, Bogota, with his wife Meghan and Colombian Vice President Francia Marquez.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who resigned from official royal duties in January 2020 and now lives in California, arrived in Colombia on Thursday 15 August at Marquez's invitation and will tour the country.

During a panel discussion at the EAN University in Bogota on Thursday night, Harry expressed his concern about AI's future. "AI is scary and I think a lot of people are feeling scared and uncertain," said the prince. "One of my biggest concerns is that as long as social media remains as it is now, we will be forever divided. We are no longer arguing about facts, we are arguing and arguing about misinterpreted information," he added.

Harry and Meghan founded the US-based Archewell Foundation, a nonprofit organization partnering with charity organizations around the world.

After being greeted by Marquez in Bogota, the royal couple visited a school and spoke with students. They also watched a traditional Colombian dance show, where Harry applauded with Marquez, the country's first black female vice president who is also a former environmental activist.

The pair is expected to travel to the city of Cali in western Colombia this weekend to participate in the Petronio Alvarez festival celebrating Afro-Colombia music and culture.

"Thank you for visiting Colombia, being here, and for your willingness to come to share, as well as building relationships to work together on issues that affect humanity, such as cyberbullying, violence on social media, and discrimination," Marquez said.
