JAKARTA - Huawei appears to be preparing for a major breakthrough in the world of foldable devices with the latest leaks suggesting that their trifold device may be released soon. According to a report from Gizmochina, a photo showing Huawei's former CEO, Richard Yu, preparing to board the plane, shows he is holding something suspected of being a trifold phone.
The enlarged image shows little detail about the device, including a possible point where the device will fold. The left side of the device looks slightly twisted, which may indicate the location of the first hinge.
A leak from the Digital Chat Station (DCS) on Weibo also confirmed that the device in the photo is a real tri-fold phone. DCS claims that this device is similar to the previous prototype which had a double hinge design. This device is rumored to have a 10-inch deep screen when fully opened.
Other rumors say that this phone will be equipped with a punch-hole selfie camera on the left side of the internal screen. In addition, the specifications of this device may be using the SoC Kirin series 9 of HiSilicon. DCS also stated that this tri-fold device will be launched earlier than the Huawei Mate 70, which is expected to be released in Q4 2024.
As such, the world may be closer to the world's first trifold phones than previously thought, with speculation that the launch of these devices could be between now and September.
It was also reported that this Huawei trifold phone will come at a "premium" price. Users on Weibo are starting to speculate whether the company will include a stylus given the size of the device.

The idea of this tri-fold mobile phone has attracted consumer interest since the initial report claimed Huawei began developing such devices earlier this year. The report states that the Chinese company is starting to "produce bulk" devices that will fold twice to form the "Z" shape. The 10-inch internal screen continues to be the main speculation about this device.
Unfortunately, the device has not been released in the first half of this year as previously reported. So, the public has to wait to see if this latest rumor timeframe will prove true.
On the other hand, Samsung is also reportedly reconsidering the idea of a "rollable" cellphone. The Korean OEM had exhibited a prototype rollable mobile phone during CES 2024, so perhaps the theory is still relevant
