JAKARTA- ByteDance has expanded its offerings by launching software that can produce videos based on text orders. They joined a number of Chinese technology companies entering this new market, which was also targeted by ChatGPT creator OpenAI.
Since the Microsoft-backed OpenAI launched a Sora text-to-video model in February, which has yet to be publicly available, Chinese companies are rapidly developing similar tools. Some of them have even launched models that users can access.
Jimeng AI, developed by ByteDance's Faceu Technology, is now available on the Apple App Store for users in China, after its release on Android on July 31.

The launch of a text-to-video model by the parent company of this short video app TikTok follows a series of similar model launches in recent months in China. Kuaisou, one of China's largest video apps, opened a Kling AI text-to-video model to a global audience late last month. Its beta version is accessible worldwide, requiring only email addresses for registration.
China's AI startup Zhipu AI also introduced Ying's video-generating model last month, and days after its launch, another startup, Shengshu, officially launched their Vidu app.
Faceu Technology operates under the Jianying ByteDance business, known for its video editing app CapCut. Jimeng AI offers subscriptions for 69 yuan (Rp160 thousand) per month, 79 yuan for one month, or 659 yuan per year. Each package allows users to create about 2,050 images or 168 AI videos per month.
