JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi said he would limit credit purchase transactions to a maximum of one million per day, as an effort to eradicate online gambling in Indonesia.

Because according to Budi, currently the dealers and online gambling controllers are starting to use credit as media for online gambling transactions.

"Because it is suspected that online gambling uses a credit currency, one day it can reach up to Rp. 100 million to Rp. 1 billion for credit transfers. So we will make an opsel regulation for credit transfers of a maximum of one million per day," Budi said on Thursday, August 1 at the Kominfo Office.

Furthermore, Budi also admitted that he had met directly with the President Director (Managing Director) of cellular operators, namely Telkomsel, XL Axiata, Smartfren, and Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison to discuss restrictions on this credit transaction.

"Regarding credit, it has been decided. I have conveyed it to the Directors of South Police, it has been socialized, transfer of credit to a maximum of one million per day. So that credit is not used as a commodity for online gambling," he added.

In addition, Kominfo has also taken advanced steps by blocking access to online gambling sites via Virtual Private Network (VPN). The Ministry of Communications and Informatics also said that it had tested access blocking with three widely used free VPN brands.

"According to the Directorate General of Aptika, there are 20-30 companies. As of yesterday, we first tested 3 which indicated that most of them were used for online gambling, later we will gradually block all free VPNs containing negative content," continued Budi.
