JAKARTA - Qualcomm recently launched a new Snapdragon chipset specifically designed for affordable Android phones. Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 is a simpler version of Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 last year.

This latest chipset offers 5G connectivity with speeds up to 1Gbps, as well as improvements in performance, battery life, and camera features. Although not as fast as Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 which has download speeds of up to 2.5Gbps, Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 is expected to accelerate the adoption of 5G technology on budget phones.

According to Qualcomm, this chipset is seven times faster than the current LTE phones in the market. Chris Patrick, senior vice president and general manager of mobile devices at Qualcomm, says that the launch of Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 is a step forward in making 5G technology more affordable for more people.

In terms of performance, Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 is equipped with two performance cores with speeds up to 2GHz and six efficiency cores with a speed of 1.8GHz. This chipset also supports single shootings of up to 80MP and stabilization of video images and reduction of multi-frame noise.

Other features include battery life throughout the day and support for 40W fast charging with Qualcomm's Quick Charge 4 Plus technology. The chipset also supports Full HD+ views with 90Hz refresh rate, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, and AI-based audio upgrades.

Qualcomm revealed that a large range of OEMs will use Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 for the upcoming budget Android phones, where Xiaomi is expected to be the first to launch a new device with this latest chipset.
