JAKARTA - The iOS 18 beta 3 operating system now allows more users in various countries to try RCS (Rich Communication Services) support. This message upgrade feature was previously limited to some operators in the US, such as T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T. However, with the latest beta updates, iPhone users in Canada, France, Germany, and Spain can also enjoy this service.
According to a report from 9to5Mac, iOS 18 beta 3 activated RCS support for iPhone users in several new countries. Some operators that support this feature include Videotron, Telus Mobility, Bell, Telefonica, SFR, and O2.
A eligible user can find a new RCS setting in the Messages section of the Settings app after updating to the latest beta. This feature is defaultly enabled, so users don't need to activate it manually.

For those who are not familiar, the RCS protocol allows some useful messaging features such as high-resolution media sharing, read receipts, typing indicators, emoji reactions, and more. However, to be able to use RCS, operators must individually apply RCS support to their customers.
As a result, not all iPhone users will be able to rely on RCS when iOS 18 officially launches this fall. This is due to some operators who may not support this feature from day one. Until then, iPhone users must be patient with SMS restrictions or use third-party messaging apps.
