Jakarta - Authorities in Turkey have arrested a student for cheating during the university entrance exam using homemade devices connected to artificial intelligence software (AI) to answer questions.

The student was seen acting suspiciously during last weekend's exam and was later detained by the police, before being officially arrested and thrown into prison pending trial. Others who helped the student were also detained.

A video released by police in Turkey's southwestern Isparta province shows how the student used a camera disguised as a shirt button connected to AI software via a router hidden in a shoe sole.

A police officer in the video scans questions to show how the system works, with AI software, yields the correct answer, which is then conveyed through a listener.
