JAKARTA - Facebook owners, Meta Platforms Inc., are building artificial intelligence (AI) technology specifically for Europe that reflects linguistic, geographic, and cultural references, the company said on Monday, June 10.

Meta will train their big language model using user-selected content in the European Union to be shared publicly on its platforms such as Instagram and Facebook.

The company used public posts on Facebook and Instagram to train parts of Meta AI's new virtual assistants, but excluded private posts that only shared with family and friends in honor of consumer privacy.

This was previously disclosed by Meta's top policy executive to Reuters in an interview in September.

Last month, the company said it would start informing Facebook and Instagram users in Europe and the UK of how it uses public information shared on Meta services to develop and improve AI.
