Microsoft Partners With Stockholm Exergi To Permanently Remove Carbon

JAKARTA - Microsoft is working with Stockholm Exergi, a Swedish energy company, to permanently eliminate carbon. It is planned that it will culminate carbon up to 3.33 million tonnes. The carbon removal from this bioenergy was carried out by capturing and storing carbon in V19rtan, Stockholm. This carbon transfer attempt to the Stockholm machine will begin in 2028 and will continue for the next 10 years. This transfer of carbon to culling is one of Microsoft's efforts to achieve negative carbon by 2030. The company also plans to eliminate emissions equivalent to Microsoft's historical amount of emissions by 2050. Although their goal is correct, namely saving the Earth, Microsoft's plans have become controversial. The reason is, it is not yet known whether a fueled power plant can fight climate change as expected by the company. Various leading environmental groups in the US, such as the Hayati and Friends of the Earth International Diversity Center, condemn Microsoft's bold actions. According to them, the strategy planned by Microsoft is the wrong solution. Microsoft is not the only company to be criticized for using it wood for bioenergy needs. In 2018, citing from The verge, nearly 800 scientists signed a letter related to the ban on the use of wood for bioenergy.

The letter submitted to the European Parliament shows that many scientists disagree with the use of wood as an alternative bioenergy. However, Microsoft and Exergi's agreement will continue to use forestry waste residue. In addition to using waste from the forest, power plants in Stockholm will also use wood pellets. If you look at the theory, the two companies believe that forest biomass burning can be a source of carbon neutral energy. Unfortunately, various findings suggest that the bioenergy strategy with carbon capture (BECCS) is incorrect. Several studies have also shown that BECCS is not carbon negative, but rather an addition to greenhouse gas pollution.
