Adobe Will Complete AI Image Making Tool To Photoshop

JAKARTA - Adobe announced on Tuesday 22 April that it plans to embed full artificial intelligence imagers in their Photoshop software by the end of this year.

Adobe's image and video editing tools are widely used by creative professionals, but they face increasingly fierce competition from startups such as those supported by Microsoft, OpenAI, Midjourney, and AI Stabilities, all of which offer services that can generate images from text.

Adobe is developing their own image maker artificial intelligence system called Firefly, which is trained with data it owns Adobe, to avoid copyright infringement claims against users.

Previously, Adobe had released image-generation tools in Photoshop that could fill or expand parts of existing images. In a conference in London on Tuesday, the company said full-image generation would come later this year, based on a new artificial intelligence system called Firefly Image 3.

Most of Adobe's focus has been on accelerating the work of professionals who use their software. This new image creation or production tool will have the ability to use images uploaded by users as a reference to the general composition of an image.

"For example, a designer can make a quick sketch of a scene in a blanket, take a photo of thesaber with a smartphone, and then ask Photoshop to produce complete images in various styles," said Ely Greenfield, chief technology officer for digital media at Adobe.

"Instead of having to be very careful in explaining exactly what's in it and trying to make sure that I determine the things I want and what I don't, this is borrowing from references. So this is a very strong capability," Greenfield said.

Adobe said the "beta" version of the software was available to some users on Tuesday but did not provide a date for its general availability.
