Meta Experiences Technical Problems That Continue To Increase, Causes Facebook And Instagram Often Down

JAKARTA - Facebook and Instagram users may have had trouble accessing the platform recently. Since the beginning of this year, Meta's services have experienced 33 times of disruption - including the two biggest glitches since 2022.

While it's easy to think that Facebook is being attacked by malicious hackers, the reality may be worse for the company. Speaking to MailOnline, tech experts have revealed that Meta may have created a system that is too complex to run - especially as the company continues to cut staff.

Not just one technical entity, but the complexity of the system is increasing. So things that were previously just a minor problem are now the cause of the system being damaged, said Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta about the technical conditions of his company today.

According to experts, the problem will only get worse, with these disorders being referred to as 'extensive' for Meta.

Now the situation is getting worse, as companies like Meta are trying to reduce costs such as reducing the number of employees. In May last year, Meta laid off more than 10,000 staff above 11,000 previously in November 2022, losing about 10 percent of the total staff each time.

Meta's latest deal with top record labels also considers the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the music industry. The deal requires approval and compensation before releasing songs featuring digital replicas of the voices of artists.

The deal also includes improvements in health benefits and pensions, as well as expansion in the streaming revenue section that is contributed.

The voices of the music industry players were represented by Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), with approvals covering around 160,000 actors and media personnel.

In January and April of this year, Meta's services include Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram experiencing disruptions for about two hours. This problem appears to be widespread across Meta services with Threads users and even Meta Quest VR users affected.

An explanation from experts suggests that this technical issue is not just a temporary disruption, but can be a serious threat to Meta. The complexity of the system is too large, the decline in staff numbers, as well as the lack of improvement in technology infrastructure are factors that can cause disruptions more frequently and have a wider impact.

Although Meta is aware of this issue, the challenge for companies to address this issue remains large. The increasing disruption of services can have a negative impact on the company's reputation, user confidence, and advertising revenue, which in turn could affect the company's share price.
