JAKARTA - A new social media app focused on voice talks, named Airchat, has been re-launched by a team led by AngelList founder Naval Ravikant and former Tinder executive Brian Norgard.
The previous version of Airchat was released last year, but the app was rebuilt and re-launched on the iOS and Android platforms on April 13. Currently, Airchat is only available through invites, but the app has ranked 27th in the category of social networks on Apple's App Store.
Airchat offers a familiar and intuitive experience for users, with the ability to follow other users, explore post feed, and interact with the post by replying, liking, and sharing it. What distinguishes Airchat from other social media apps is that posts and replies are voice recordings, which are then transcribed by the app.
When opening Airchat, users will listen to audio messages automatically, and can easily explore them by sliding the screen. In addition to listening, users can also read the text transcription of the message, as well as share photos and videos. However, Airchat's main focus is on voice talks, which Ravikant considers a significant change in the dynamics compared to text-based social media applications.

Despite using Airchat, most of the posts that appear are about the app itself, where Ravikant and Norgard answer questions and ask for feedback from users. However, there is great potential for Airchat to become a diverse platform, with space for topics and talks.
Airchat also has plans to protect its users from spam and troll content through complex rules. However, there is also a need to better moderate content, and the Airchat team is considering ways to do this.
While monetization is a concern on many social media platforms, Ravikant said that currently there is no monetization pressure on the company. He stressed that their main focus is building and providing experiences that are beneficial for users. In other words, Airchat will run even with a minimum budget if necessary.
With its new launch, Airchat offers an attractive alternative to those looking for different social media platforms with a focus on voice and deep talks.
