JAKARTA Samsung added Gemini, Google's Artificial Intelligence (AI) model, in the Galaxy S24 device series. Although their latest device is equipped with Google's AI assistant, Bixby is still not dead. Bixby is a virtual assistant Samsung launched on the Galaxy S8 device in 2017. This software is similar to Google Assistant and Siri developed by Apple. Unfortunately, Bixby's development is still slow. As Google Assistant and Siri are increasingly communicative in answering user questions, Bixby is a little lagging behind. Bixby doesn't have Gemini-like chatbot capabilities even though Samsung has created a new breakthrough which they call Galaxy AI. Oleh therefore, Samsung plans to add a generating AI into Bixby. This is important to do because Bixby is a virtual assistant that can be found in almost all Samsung-made devices. In other words, Bixby is a core assistant.

"With the emergence of generative AI and LLM technologies, I believe we should redefine the role of Bixby, so that Bixby can be equipped with a generating AI and become smarter in the future," Samsung Executive Vice President, Won-Joon Choi, told CNBC.Choi also explained that the use of a generating AI will make Bixby support a more natural conversation and its interface will be much better. Thus, the use of a generating AI is believed to be the right move. Currently, Samsung is trying to incorporate the ability of a generating AI into Bixby, but it is not yet known when the work will be completed. Choi only said that Samsung is working very hard to redefine Bixby.
