JAKARTA - Billionaire Elon Musk announced that a long-form video will soon be available on smart television, after Fortune magazine reported that social network X plans to launch a TV app next week for Amazon and Samsung users.

The platform has launched an initial version of video and audio calls for some users in October 2023. This materialized, after Musk revealed his plans to make X a super app offering services ranging from messages to payments between others.

"In the near future," Musk said in a brief response on X to user posts that long-form videos from the platform could be watched live on smart television.

Previously, Fortune warned that the app might be similar to the TV app offered by Google's YouTube. The magazine cites unnamed sources saying Musk is determined to compete with YouTube.

X did not immediately respond to a request for comment for more details about the app. In an effort to become a video-focused platform, X has entered into partnerships with figures such as former Fox commentator Tucker Carlson and former CNN host Don Lemon.

The platform, which has struggled to keep advertisers since Musk bought it in 2022, said last month it would allow advertisers to run video ads alongside creators of certain content.
