Greece Becomes The 35th Country To Join The Artemis Agreement

Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis signed NASA's Artemis / DOK Agreement

JAKARTA The Artemis Agreement has received support from a new country. Announced by the United States Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA), Greece officially joined the agreement.

Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis met with NASA Administrator Bill Nelson on Friday, February 9. The two met to sign the Artemis Agreement sheet at the State Department, Washington.

Apart from being Gerapetritis, the other parties who attended were NASA Deputy Administrator Pam Melroy, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and Hellenic Space Center President Dr. Loanis Daglis. This cooperation was approved when the US-Yunani Dialogue was held.

Nelson said he was enthusiastic about joining Greece into the Artemis Agreement. The reason is, diplomatic relations between Greece and the US have been going on for quite a while. Nelson believes Greece's move will encourage more countries to join.

Meanwhile, Gerapetritis considers that the Artemis Agreement, particularly the Artemis program, is very promising. Gerapetritis believes that this month's exploration mission partnership will form a better future.

So far, the Artemis Agreement has been backed by dozens of countries and Greece to become the 35th country. With this initiative, the US and the merged countries agreed to utilize space resources in accordance with the 1967 Space Agreement.

This agreement also establishes a framework for cooperation to create safe, peaceful, and prosperous activities while on the Moon. Later, all scientific data generated from the Artemis program will be released to the public.
